Watch the auctionENGLISH SCHOOL, mid-19th century. A half-length portrait of Right Reverend Thomas Carr (1788-1859), seated in an armchair with an open book on his lap; oil on board: 11½"" x 9½"". NOTE: Thomas Carr served as a chaplain in the East India Company in 1817, became Archdeacon of Bombay in 1825, and the inaugural Bishop of Bombay from 1836 to 1851. On his return to England he became rector of Bath Abbey from 1855-59.
